Large Diameter Pipe

The challenges of pipe cleaning and rehabilitation increase greatly as the diameter of the pipe increases. In order to meet these challenges, IPR has introduced new technologies developed to provide economical, low risk rehabilitation of large diameter pipelines.

Large diameter pipelines are generally buried deeper and require high-stiffness liners to structurally rehabilitate. The large flow volumes carried by large diameter pipelines are more difficult, more costly and riskier to divert. The benefits of IPR’s trenchless solutions go beyond the dollar value of the project itself, and include minimizing the social cost associated with traffic delays, interruptions to businesses and residential neighborhoods.

HYDROSLED TECHNOLOGY

Sewer cleaning operations were accomplished with mechanical methods, placing workers in the sewer with shovels and buckets. This common method may not be the safest way to clean pipe.

Inland Waters has developed and patented a tool named the HydrosledTM for hydraulic cleaning of large diameter sewers. The HydrosledTM can be custom designed to fit the needs of any size pipeline.  A cable is attached to the HydrosledTM to control the rate of advancement and to ensure a good wash.

The HydrosledTM includes a pneumatic control system that opens or closes the gate and skirts using cylinders from above grade. The gate is throttled to produce a scouring jet and the skirts are adjusted to provide closure around the sides. If obstructions are encountered, on the sewer bottom or side walls, the skirts and gates can be moved so that the HydrosledTM passes by them.

 Hydraulic cleaning methods, like the HydrosledTM,  are generally more efficient and safer with respect to the workers.
